about

Christine Engel is a multi-media visual artist.  She is currently in her last year of an M.F.A. from Ryerson University in Documentary Media which includes film, photography, and new media.  Along with current educational endeavors, Christine continues to create work in traditional fine arts, particularly in painting and drawing.  Recently her work has moved to the abstract in what she calls "musical portraiture" where a portrait is created under the influence of the subject's musical preferences.  It is a way to portray a person in one of the ways they define themselves to the world.
Christine is currently writing, directing, and editing her Master's thesis project which is a documentary film that explores the emotional and sociological issues around queer individuals coming out in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.  She is re-thinking traditional modes of representation of minority groups, and will continue to create films that revolve around these issues.
